What's this all about then?

This is a diary of our trip to Italy and the UK in May/June 2012. Somewhere to put our activities and some pictures.
We don't want to forget anything!

Thursday, 14 June 2012 - Scotland to Cumbria

Time to leave Stirling, and Scotland, and head south - to Cumbria and the Lake District.  Our next stay was in a  'cottage' in Cumbria - in a place called Field Broughton.  Just a church and a few farms.  Although we did stumble across what might have been a tiny village on our last day here, while looking for the mythical pub that was meant to be in walking distance - never did find that.  Not too important as the weather wasn't conducive to walks of any distance.

We left Stirling in the morning and drove south.  Stopping at a village that included Mike's surname - whether his ancestors had anything to do with it may be up for discussion.  It did give us an excuse to see some of the countryside off the motorway.  However maybe the motorway wasn't too bad after all.

We stopped for lunch at Gretna at another outlet shopping centre.  Some more nice shops.  Continued on to Field Broughton arriving late afternoon as planned. Another really nice place, attached to what must have been a very large farm house.  We unpacked and then went into nearby Grange-over-Sands and found a supermarket to stock up on essentials.  Mike and I tried a couple of bottles of cider this time.  Looked like a nice place (the town, not the supermarket) but there was a cold wind coming off the sea so we didn't stay as long as we would have liked.  We made our way back trying to get used to the very narrow roads around here.  The closer we got to our house the narrower they got, down to one lane with solid stone walls a couple of feet either side of the car.  Scary.
Ford outside our cottage, and 2 ladies

The church, and we did go inside

Had a nice meal and watched some more World Cup Football that we had been following everywhere we stayed.
