What's this all about then?

This is a diary of our trip to Italy and the UK in May/June 2012. Somewhere to put our activities and some pictures.
We don't want to forget anything!

Thursday, 21 June 2012 - Stay-at-homes

The weather was again grey.  We had decided that after a late night (old age is coming fast) that we would have a quiet day in the local area.  Mike did his thing with a stash of newspapers and stayed in the apartment.  The girls and I took our leave and walked into town, only 10 minutes away.  Looked at quite a few shops, including a posh fancy foods shop that had a display of Whitaker's Chocolate (from Porirua), and RJ's Licorice (from Levin).  Both very local to us.  Made me feel a bit homesick, but not enough to buy any.  We bought some lunch stuff from a local bakery and went back for lunch.

After lunch we left Mike to more papers and drove off to find the church that Tricia was christened in, and a house that they lived in at the time (how they remembered that I don't know - I can't remember what I was doing when I was under 2 years old).

Well we found the house OK and had a wander around the area.  The place was just on the outskirts of Cirencester. Then we found the church which was just further up the road.  Tricia and I had been here 10 years earlier on my first trip.  The church was closed then, and it was closed now.  Still we admired the exterior and took a couple of pics.
St Peter's from the back.  The lighting was better from here !

We went into back to Cirencester and did a walk around the Church of St. John the Baptist.  Another great church, and we got inside this one.  I went off to find a shop I had seen earlier to buy a red Lamy Fountain Pen that I had seen, it was a good price.  I like using fountain pens and these Lamy ones are good (and I only have 3 others).  It took me ages to find the shop again, but eventually I did, made my purchase and departed.
St John the Baptist (no - the church stupid)

We decided on Fish and Chips for dinner and found one that wasn't too far away.  We also needed to visit a supermarket so we found the Waitrose in Sheep street (this is a wool town!).  This was a bit higher class than some we had visited.  Amazing wine section which was just as well as that was one thing we were after - we needed some for a forthcoming barbecue.  We helped New Zealand's balance of payments and purchased some good NZ wine.

Found the chippy.  Their stuff was OK but not as nice as those we had in North Yorkshire or Scotland.  We are getting to be connoisseurs.

Tricia described it succinctly as:
Having Quiet day today.  Went around the Cirencester shops.  Visited St Peter's Church - closed. Will come again.
