We did the standard Pickering to Grosmont and return. Allowing us to get off where we wanted and get back on later. It's a stunning trip, apart from the steam train and the old carriages, the scenery is just great. We got off the train at Goathland - better known by its TV name of Aidensfield (the Heartbeat TV series). Goathland station was also used in the Harry Potter movies apparently. We walked up to the village itself, passing the pub familiar from the TV. There were several quite interesting touristy shops, which was just as well as the weather turned to rubbish, with rain and a cool breeze. We stopped of for a tea/coffee in a nice tearooms (seems more appropriate to call it that rather than a cafe). I had my first pot of 'Yorkshire Tea' - a real brew. I must be hooked on it as we have a packet in the cupboard now.

The 'Aidensfield' Pub. Another one that we didn't go into. |
We had planned to take a walk across to a pub that was listed in the guidebooks as being a good walk, and a nice pub, but the weather stopped that So we made our way back and continued on to Grosmont. We had a look at the Engine sheds here where they were working on some engines, and in the attached shop. Had some lunch in Grosmont and grabbed the train back, going straight back to Pickering.
A great day out.
Tricia's epic diary entry reads:
Went from Pickering to Grosmont on the train. Great fun.
