The rain persisted down for the whole trip, so it was a bit grey, and there wasn't much to admire. Eventually we got near York, bypassing that and heading back into more rural (but busy) roads. As we neared Pickering the rain actually stopped and the sun almost came out. No trouble finding the house, I had seen it on Google street view, right next to the Kebab shop (that wasn't mentioned in the renting details of the property), The house was incredibly small, as advertised, but it was cheap and we were happy with it. It was only 30 metres from the main shopping street of Pickering. We had to park the car 2-300 metres up the road as Burgate (our street) was narrow.

Pickering main street, setting up for Market day, Monday morning. |
Unpacked and walked into town. One of the local bakeries (there were three, not counting the butcher and his Pork Pies and the Supermarket) was selling off the end of the days stuff - so we bought two large meat pies, and something with carrots in it for the vegetarian. Those pies were great - they do good bakery stuff oop north.
Tricia's diary stated:
Off to Pickering, nice house. Walked around town, early night.
