What's this all about then?

This is a diary of our trip to Italy and the UK in May/June 2012. Somewhere to put our activities and some pictures.
We don't want to forget anything!

Sunday, 3 June 2012 - Way oop North

Well, today we are off to Pickering in North Yorkshire.  Started the day with our last great breakfast.  Packed up and set off into the grey rain.  TomTom kept us off the big Motorways for quite a while so we saw a lot of the countryside, got passed by a new metallic orange McLaren 12C.  At least that brightened the day.  We ignored Francis' advice from the day before and used the Service centres on the Motorway.  The ones in Italy had been expensive but pleasant with good food.  The only similarity in the UK is the expensive bit.  We didn't make this mistake again.  All other long trips we did detours to town or villages for comfort stops.

The rain persisted down for the whole trip, so it was a bit grey, and there wasn't much to admire.  Eventually we got near York, bypassing that and heading back into more rural (but busy) roads.  As we neared Pickering the rain actually stopped and the sun almost came out.  No trouble finding the house, I had seen it on Google street view, right next to the Kebab shop (that wasn't mentioned in the renting details of the property),  The house was incredibly small, as advertised, but it was cheap and we were happy with it.  It was only 30 metres from the main shopping street of Pickering.  We had to park the car 2-300 metres up the road as Burgate (our street) was narrow.

8 Burgate, half the size of the kebab shop
Pickering main street, setting up for Market day, Monday morning.

Unpacked and walked into town.  One of the local bakeries (there were three, not counting the butcher and his Pork Pies and the Supermarket) was selling off the end of the days stuff - so we bought two large meat pies, and something with carrots in it for the vegetarian.  Those pies were great - they do good bakery stuff oop north.

Tricia's diary stated:
Off to Pickering, nice house.  Walked around town, early night.
