What's this all about then?

This is a diary of our trip to Italy and the UK in May/June 2012. Somewhere to put our activities and some pictures.
We don't want to forget anything!

Sunday, 27 May 2012 - Travel to Firenze

Today was our last day in Montepulciano - that was one quick week.  We had a leisurely morning - coffee and pastries at the place we had been to several times - the guy knew us and charged us the stand-up rate for our coffees, but told us to sit at a table.  The non-Italians out there may not know but if you drink your coffee (espresso of course) at the bar it is cheaper than if you sit at a table.  We had a last wander around the town - it is beautiful.

We packed up and left at 1 pm, with TomTom loaded with our next apartment in Florence.  It was another nice drive and TomTom took us in the back way so we didn't go anywhere near the city centre.  We actually went through a large park with stunning views of the city, through Piazzale Michelangelo, where we walked later.  This wasn't too far from our apartment, just across the river Arno from the old city.

The apartment was great and had off street parking - a bonus in this city.  They take their security seriously (could be a worry), just look at the steel gates, electronically controlled.  Of course the plumbing was still Italian, just to keep us on our toes.
Our Firenze Apartment.  Top floor.  Superb.

We unpacked and then went for a walk down to the Arno and across a couple of the bridges, getting our bearings for tomorrow's activities.

Left Montepulciano this morning.  Went and had a coffee and one last look at Montepulciano.  Left about 1:00pm.  Drove to Florence.  Lovely apartment.  Went for a walk.  Tea at apartment.
